About Me

R.AI.NER

R. Artificial Intelligence. Named Entity Recognition.

I am a Senior Data Scientist working on Data2Insights and Ontology projects at AbbVie in Ludwigshafen, Germany. I received my Diploma in Computer Science in the Natural Sciences from Bielefeld University, Germany, in 2005 and my PhD degree in Bioinformatics with magna cum laude from the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, in 2011. Before joining AbbVie in 2017, I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the U.S. National Library of Medicine in Bethesda in Maryland and at the Center for Biomedical Informatics Research at Stanford University in California.

I have conducted and published research in the field of Biomedical Informatics with focus on semantic data extraction and integration for more than ten years. At AbbVie, I am interested in using both structured and unstructured data primarily extracted from the biomedical literature as well as domain knowledge from terminologies and ontologies to discover knowledge that will support the development of novel drugs in challenging therapeutic areas such as immunology, oncology, and neuroscience.

Education

Since August 2017, I am a Senior Data Scientist working on Data2Insights and Ontology projects at AbbVie in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

From January 2017 to July 2017, I took some baby bonding time.

From November 2014 to December 2016, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the research lab of Prof. Nigam Shah at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research (BMIR), Stanford, CA, in the United States.

From January 2012 to November 2014, I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the group of Dr. Olivier Bodenreider at Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications of the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD, in the United States.

In September 2011, I received my PhD degree in Bioinformatics from the Technische Universität Dresden, Germany. I conducted my PhD research (2007 - 2011) in the Bioinformatics group of Prof. Michael Schroeder at the Biotechnology Center (BIOTEC).

From 2005 - 2007, I worked as a Bioinformatics researcher at Rothamsted Research on data integration and text mining.

In 2005, I received my Diploma degree in Computer Science in the Natural Sciences from Bielefeld University in Germany. I wrote my diploma thesis at Rothamsted Research in the United Kingdom under the supervision of Prof. Ralf Hofestädt and Dr. Jacob Köhler.
